Went to check out McGill shoulder main chute. The weather was pleasant and overcast with no wind in the morning, warming up with clearing skies by the afternoon with wet, sticky snow and tree bombs on the way out. The rain crust was felt up to about 1700m with 5-30 cm covering it. We dug a pit at 2100m on the west aspect prior to descending. The heigh of snow was 120cm. A layer of decomposing crystals was noted down 70cm. Non reactive on isolated column test. There were some lovely turns up high to be had in soft powder, however conditions deteriorated lower the slide path down with poor coverage of trees and crust. The descent through the forest was less than ideal, ' survival skiing' as previously mentioned still rings true.
