Snowpack

I traveled on east aspects below and near treeline and north aspects near treeline. Snow depth varied from 6" to 24" or more. Snowpack observations on a north aspect near treeline revealed faceted grains on a pencil hard slab over facets and depth hoar. ECTP28 5cm above the ground on the facet/depth hoar interface. This structure was isolated to areas that had been favored with previous wind loading. The snowpack is entirely faceted on north slopes that are more sheltered from the wind. The snowpack on east slopes near and below treeline was mostly faceted, though in some places you could find some harder layers under the faceted upper snowpack.
