Weather
Clear skies and very warm temperatures, upper 40s and 50s. Little to no wind. Snowdepths; 50" at the highway stake and 38" at Slumgullion Snotel. April snowfall water content from Snotel was 69% of average. Seasonal snowfall water content is 89% of average.
Snowpack
With clear skies overnight, the snow surface melt/freeze crust held up well until about noon. After that, expect increasing hazard along with some challenging travel in an unsupportable wet mess.
Avalanche
Observed wet snow avalanche activity was isolated and small, but to the ground. The southeasterly aspect of Matterhorn Peak seemed to have some recent activity, but too distant to pick out any detail. No other obvious activity was observed in this eastern end of the San Juan zones.
