Snowpack

Outing aimed to compare state of the weak layer/s and settled HS from a pit dug on 12/21. Today's snow profile observed lies ~50 ft from the previous hole (12/21) on very similar aspect and elevation. The settled HS was nearly doubled from measurement on 12/21 (78-150cm). 20-30cm of near-surface faceting caps off a nicely welded ~100cm 4F-1F column perched over the early season snow. The most significant change other than HS is the deterioration of two previously noted melt-freeze crust layers with well developed facets above and below. Only one at 25cm is detectably intact (1F-) formed over 4mm striated depth hoar. Ct test scores still showing upper mod-hard results (CT21) but with a sudden collapse failure character. Status quo with ECTX.
