Snowmobile AST1 Course: Day started off with calm winds, a fresh 20cm of blower pow in the staging area, and a surprisingly balmy -14C. We chose well supported, low-angle, sheltered terrain for our trip. Gusty winds increasing near noon with ongoing stormy weather and deep powder riding throughout the day. Total height of snow around 130cm including an obvious 1 inch tall surface hoar layer standing proud and highly visible down 60cm with the lingering ice crust in the lower snowpack. Moderate to hard, resistant planer tests results sliding on the surface hoar layer.
