Snowpack

Pole probes revealed that the recent snow was building into a slab and sitting on a weak layer about about a meter down. Dug a qik pit at the indicated location on the downhill side of FR 116 on a S/SW aspect. Observed the developing slab sitting on a weak layer of near surface facets formed prior to the last storm. The mid pack facets are sitting on a finger hard layer that sits on top of 20 cm of depth hoar. Audible whumpfs (collapses) were heard throughout the tour, especially once off the snow machine tracks on the lower sections.
