Weather

Overcast with intermittent heavy snowfall. Swirling light southwesterly winds, stronger near ridglines. No temps taken but layering needs indicated cold temps throughout the day.

Snowpack

30-40cms of new snow on a mixed bag of surfaces varying across aspects. At the southwest interface was a 6cm thick melt freeze crust., with an average HS of 60cms. . We had the most signs of instability on this aspect. Woomphing and shooting cracks on the up track. North and northwest showed surface signs of instability, with easily triggered fast moving sluffs. HS ranged from too deep to measure with my ski pole to 80cms. Minihaha Basin above treeline showed signs of wind scour and did not warrant further exploration.
