Snowpack

Snowcover varied from bare ground to a little over a meter deep where I traveled today, with the average depth around 70cm. Below treeline I found today's storm snow on facets with ski penetration almost to the ground. On an east aspect near treeline I triggered a whumpf that failed on facets and maybe some old surface hoar burried just under a melt-freeze crust. ECTPV x 2 on this layer. On a north aspect near treeline I found a faceted and weak, though unreactive, snowpack with today's storm snow bonding well at the old snow surface.
