Attempted to ski the bowl south of Avalanche Mountain. Ran out of time for the alpine (and skiable conditions) but I would imagine that skiing does exist if you work for it. Recent storm dropped 5-10 cm at the road and up to 30 cm in the alpine. Deepest we encountered was about 15 cm at about 1500 m. Hiked in ski boots most of the way as the forested trails were pretty bare and rocky. If you need an excuse to get new skis, go ski the avalanche trail. Should have a core shot in under 10 seconds. Conditions were -10 to -15 celsius and mostly clear. A few small clouds moving over the peaks. Ridge top winds looked stronger than forecasted. See the blowing snow in the last picture. Maybe already some wind loading to consider in deep pockets? Forecast looks prime for turning this new snow into facets. So heres to another season of sketchy persistent weak layers.
