A warm spring day with little wind.

Below treeline, the snow is melting quickly, and much of the south, southwest, and west-facing slopes are once again bare. The trail has about 12 to 15 inches of snow on it. As we gain elevation towards Gravel Mountain, the average snow depth in this near treeline area was 150 cm. The only spots that might not have that much snow are the westerly slopes due to the effects of wind and the increased sun exposure from last week. We only obtained results in an Extended Column Test from our north-facing pit, around 11,400 feet, where I've previously dug this year. Additionally, the avalanche on Gravel on February 22nd has not been filled in yet, but it has been loaded again, raising some concerns. We triggered some cornices onto the slope and observed a shooting crack in the wind-drifted snow.
