Went for a quick rip up Morfee to visit the sled cabin. Snowing lightly with high winds (classic Mack). 10cm-15cm of powder on top of a very firm surface. Got into the alpine just above the cabin but visibility was <30 metres so tucked tail and warmed up. On the way home we dug a pit at 1380 m, West facing, below treeline. Did 2 column tests, similar results in both. First result was a sudden plainer failure from 5 taps from the wrist (CTE 5), this failed at 23cm. This failed on a layer of surface hoar from Feb 22nd. Second result failed from 5 more taps from the wrist and 3 from the elbow (CTM 3) also sudden plainer, also on a layer of surface hoar (see photos).
