Cold and clear with moderate winds at time of observation. Previous days brought heavy snowfall to the area
Avalanche
Large natural avalanche on SSE aspect of the Clark Peak bowl above Jewel Lake. Broke at ~11,900 ft elevation and ran down to ~11,400. Appeared to be very recent given preserved nature of crown and debris despite heavy snowfall 7/5 - 7/6. Crown appeared to be 7+ ft deep. Slide propagated to nearby slopes, exposing rocks in some areas. Likely failed on buried persistent weak layer from early season. Cornices above suggest heavy wind loading onto slope prior to failure.
