Weather
Mostly cloudy skies with intermitted snow showers. There were pockets of sunshine but only a few prior to 11:00am. Winds were light to moderate and temperatures mild compared to recent days.
Snowpack
The sun quickly warmed the new snow even when only out for a short time. With plenty of new snow sitting on crusts we can anticipate a decent D1 and D1.5 shed cycle as soon as the sun is out for multiple hours and temperatures rise. Skiing over the weekend, the new snow was more reactive on Sunday than on Saturday in the Red Mountain Pass area.
Avalanche
A small avalanche was triggered by stepping on steep drifted pocket on the shoulder of Trico. The avalanche started on a northeast slope just below the skiers and propagated on the sides of the slope as it moved downhill. This northeast slope had a slick curst under the new snow from last weeks warm and sunny weather.
