Skied Sleeping Beauty area today. Evidence of a limited natural avalanche cycle this past few days to size 2.5 from large, alpine features. Crowns are only partially buried, so suspect cycle concurrent with last night's precipitation. Also observed numerous whumpfs and limited cracking while skinning around treeline. Precipitation since the weekend has brought 30 cm of new snow at ~1200 m and mix of rain and snow below ~950 m. A quick test profile at treeline had new snow overlying surface hoar (size 5mm?) down approximately 30 cm, which is most likely what was giving us the whumpfs and cracking. We skied very conservatively.
