Alpine NE slopes were very active this morning. We observed numerous wind slabs avalanches on the NE aspects of Cabin and Morning Glory Bowls. generally size was 0.5, however the propagation on one was very impressive likely yielding 1.25 (photo 2) and running to Top of runout. While skiing up NW aspects just above treeline (Cabin ridge) we remote triggered a small windslab on the NE side of the ridge (Photo 3). We found the sliding surface to be on the December 6th rain crust. Potentially exposed during the strong East winds from earlier in the week. While accessing NW aspects, we found 10-15 cm of new snow sitting on stiff windslabs from earlier in the week. Unfortunately we did not investigate these fully as the Wind was Howling! We did dig one full profile in a protected NW aspect (Photo 5), and a field profile on a NE Aspect (Photo 4). Coverage is quickly improving, with 110-175cm pretty widespread across treeline and lower alpine slopes. The new storm snow is skiing very well (albiet very touchy in isolated locations at treeline - ECTP1 @30cm!) HS at parking lot was 70cm. Stay warm out there friends!
