To add some detail to AVCAN's report, we observed the avalanche in the steep creek area at approximately midday on Sunday 16th March. There were no skiers above us so the cause is presumed to be the sun heating up the pack on the South westerly aspect, as it was a bright morning. We saw skinning tracks at the base of the chute, but elected to break trail on the less exposed side of the basin. The avalanche did cover our tracks, no more than 5 minutes after we were in situ, however it is unlikely we would have sustained serious injury that close to the run off edge.
