A windy low visibility day out at White Pass with fresh drifts on the highway this morning. We chose terrain that sheltered us from the winds and gave us access to tree line and alpine terrain. In sheltered areas in the trees there is still heavy powder with 20cm of ski pen. As we gained elevation the wind effect was widespread. It was a mixed bag of zero ski pen or breakable crust. “wind welded” described conditions accurately. We saw previous natural activity (Wind slab size 1) in a small wind loaded feature. The bed surface was reloading but was unreactive to ski cutting. Wind was out of the west and the day was warm +2c at log cabin. luckily It was still snowing! The powder was still deep in the flats and the sledding delivered the goods.
