Weather

Mild temps, with periods of sun breaking through mostly cloudy skies. Some periods of light transport at ridgetop. cloud cover: broken; wind loading: light; recent snowfall (cm): 25 to 30; snow avail for transport: moderate amounts

Snowpack

Minor cracking below treeline in sheltered terrain, where storm totals were about 10". Once we gained the ridge, it was easy to produce shooting cracks on leeward terrain features, about 12" to 15" deep at the storm interface (facets).

Avalanche

Three large slab avalanches ran today on NE to E aspects NTL on Schuylkill Ridge. These broke at the storm interface, and were all on old bedsurfaces of repeat offenders (Great Wide Open, Thanksgiving Bowl, and Birthday Bowl). We also remotely triggered a similar avalanche in Yogis from about 20 feet away. Below treeline, there were a few small pockets that ran naturally (D1 storm slabs) and we ski triggered one. Warm temperatures and greenhouse conditions also produced a handful of small wet loose avalanches, both on sunny aspects and low-elevation northerly aspects.
