Today in the hasler riding area we had some nice powder riding. We dug our pit on a NE slope 22 degree incline, light winds blowing from the NW bringing in a little more precipitation. The day was mostly over cast with a few breaks in the clouds. Our snowpack right now is sitting mostly right side up except for a crust layer with facets (2mm) on top and bottom of this crust. This crust sits down 90cm below the nice fluffy surface from the recent storms earlier this week. This crust layer was reactive in the hard range of our compression tests (CTH21-25) Resistant Planner. Total HS is sitting at 135cm. Higher in the alpine the ridges had some wind loading and wind slabs were a concern. We had a few other layers in the upper snow pack both 40cm and 60cm down reacting in the moderate range (CTM 13-16) with RP results sitting on decomposing surface hoar (2mm) and preserved stellars. Play safe and enjoy the nice powder over the holidays!
