Bonnington Traverse. - On Monday (8th of March) the weather and snow condition allowed us to do the Bonnington traverse in one day. We covered lots of ground and broke trail the majority of the time but travel was fairly quick and efficient. We had to do one short boot-pack on Territory Peak, and found the snow near ridge tops often hard-packed. It is a good idea to pack a pair of ski crampons. We also found some water in the creek before heading back up Copper Mountain to refill our water bottles. - On solar aspects, the snow was very variable from softer lower down to breakable crust, sun baked, and icy at higher elevation. Northern aspects and shaded spots skied really well with cold powder. - Avalanche observation: We found some wet loose poing release on steeper solar aspect Size 1. Also observed older crowns from slabs on northern aspect from previous cycle Size 1. No shooting cracks or whumpfing that day. - The weather was clear and warm throughout the whole day with variable calm to light winds.
