Weather

Flawless spring weather.

Snowpack

Poling showed about 12" of new snow on the road. Dog trenching revealed the same. Roller balling everywhere.

Avalanche

Looking left, up the road, saw plenty of activity. Basically everything that could rip on the north faces did (Marble Exception fully NOT in effect). Two easily spotted examples were: In the Curtain Call gulch, a slide ripped above the ice climb almost across the whole face. Hard to estimate crown but probably most, if not all, of the new snow. Farther along, on the flanks of Pt. 9663', the steep north facing slopes slid just below and extended underneath the ridge well into the trees (image). Length of crown was impressive. Once higher, it was hard to say definitively (sun glare and shade/shadows), but I could make out some crowns on some of the classic descent lines. A nod is as good as a wink to a blind man.
