Snowpack

Only a skiff of snow fell today along Highway 550 north of Silverton. Winds were not moving snow and temperatures mild under cloudy skies. The most recent snow from this past week is quickly faceting on the surface of the snowpack. This surface facet layer is 1-2 inches thick and though many highway paths lack volume, on some slopes this weak-layer is sitting on a harder surface. We can expect avalanche activity in the storm snow if the long range forecast comes to fruition.
