Weather

Clear and calm except for near the ridge with light Southwest winds at 10000'.

Snowpack

Weak and mainly faceted grains with a "sand box" feel when digging. A quick profile focused on surface grains showed the snow surface composed of decomposing stellars with a thick layer of decomposing fragments and near-surface facets from the New Year's storm. No obvious evidence of the surface hoar layers in the midpack that were observed in a similar location on 12/13/19. Snow on the more west facing egress was moist at midday. There was some "low loading" wind effect in Bears Gulch below 10000' on the Northeast facing slope.
