Weather
Recent snow of roughly a foot in the area of heavy snow, visibility decreasing throughout the day with gusts of moderate winds near ridgeline. Observation recorded on a SE aspect near treeline, described above in route description.
Snowpack
Roughly a foot of new storm snow on a burly layer of melt freeze crust
Avalanche
Intentionally ski cut a SE aspect slope of roughly 35 degrees at the top of the roll. Triggered a slide roughly 25' wide propagating around a tree and running ~100' to a bench. Slide broke on the melt freeze crust roughly a foot deep, and would have been enough to knock a skier over from the heavy snow.
