During a week of hiking and mountaineering in the Howson Range, we found good glacier travel conditions. The cool and wet summer has preserved much more snow than in previous years, and the crevasses were well bridged. However, the Burnie Glacier has receded so much that I could not find a way on to its upper neve from the upper end of its main icefall. That would require much more snow or some involved climbing through large seracs and crevasses. The trails are all cut and in good condition, and all bridges are in.
