Snowpack
40cm snowpack, Hahn's Peak Lake Area on a north facing slope of 38 degrees. Open areas of the slope exposed to the sky above had a .5 to 1 cm thick ice crust, or lens on the surface (see photos). This lens is very smooth and more robust on lower slope angles. Treed areas had a distinct lack of this icy crust showing a how variable the current snowpack is right now. Large facets were observed just below the crust on open slopes. Large open fields had a visible sheen as this ice lens is widespread on the landscape. We found it on all aspects at the elevation band between 9400 and 8000ft.
