Snowpack

Yesterday's snow largely missed McClure Pass, with less than a 1/2 inch of new snow. This fell on bare ground on all but shady N-E facing aspects, where old snow from last week remained. The old snow layer consisted of around 7 cm of snow total, with 5 cm of 2mm facets and depth hoar, capped by a 2 cm melt-freeze crust. The snow cover was not deep enough to consistently cover vegetation, and would not provide a propagation pathway for a large slide. The headaches and flatiron are not holding any old snow, but the upper start zones of Hairpin and Lone Tree bowls had snow in shaded areas and Northerly aspects
