Weather

A late-night disturbance left ~2 cm new snow that was blown around by gusty northerly winds. Skies cleared mid-morning and winds initially dropped. By late-morning, however, drifting snow was visible on most upper-elevation ridgelines and peaks. Confirmed 20 mph winds on ridgelines mid afternoon.

Snowpack

Many areas lacked structure - trapdoor or wallowing. Often these conditions were in shallower, windswept areas, but found in open, btl locations as well. ATL areas windswept and shallow.

Avalanche

Several small natural avalanches ran early AM of 1/17 after light snow and winds of previous evening. Surprisingly shallow and wide. E, SE and S aspects.
