Snowpack

Still observing cracking and rumbling collapses below treeline. At study plot, HS of 107 cm with 36 cm of 1/22 storm snow. The 1/16 storm has settled into a 1F slab and the 1/22 storm snow is getting to be mostly 4F. I did observe a small melt-freeze crust resting between storm events. My primary layer of concern is the F hard faceted layer that comprises the bottom 46 cm of the snowpack--although the last 15 cm is beginning to gain some strength. Repeatable sudden collapses during compression tests and ECTPs that propagated on this weak layer at 43 cm from the ground. Lightly snowing at 1600 with calm winds and broken skies and an airtemp of -5.
