With a forecast of an incoming storm we headed to the Tree Line riding area at Bijoux, Pine Pass. We found the two December surface hoar layers in the upper snow pack and more surface hoar growing on the surface, same as the rest of the region. So the simple rolling terrain in this area was a good choice - though there were a lot more trees then we remembered! We had fun riding the small features and tree trails. The visibility dropped and the south west winds started just before noon. We will be watching carefully how all those surface hoar layers will react to this storm load. By the time we left the parking lot in the afternoon it was snowing hard and accumulating fast.
