Weather

Cloudy, windy, and warm near the highway. Clouds built throughout the day and it started snowing in Silverton around 5:00 pm.

Snowpack

Lots of snow moving in the alpine. Fresh natural avalanche activity was observed this afternoon. Avalanches appear to be failing at the new/old interface and on the December 11th facet layer. The snowpack is definitely at a tipping point and it will be interesting to see what happens tonight with the prolonged period high precipitation intensity (PI) at 1+ inch of snow an hour.

Avalanche

I observed natural avalanches triggered by strong winds loading slopes.
