Snowing S2 until about 1pm then tapering off and partly sunny by 2:30. Light to moderate north winds in the main valley. 28 degrees in Ashcroft.
Snowpack
Snow surface was moist and sticky despite below freezing air temperatures. Snowpack is upside down and trap door and the Februry 3 lense crust is barely supportable. You can feel the collapse 5cm below the crust with most every step except in open areas where winds have formed a 30-50cm slab over the week facets. No crust was present in these areas mostly west aspects Snowpack observations produced a ECTPV that failed when the column was only 3/4 isolated. ECTP(12) down 31 resulted when only the snow above the crust was completely isolated, shows strong bond of new snow to the Feb 3 crust and poor stability below.
