A great ski at Pulpit 1! Snow steadily falling throughout the day. A few laps, with snow starting to feel heavy by the time we left. Temps around 0 to -2 ish. New snow sloughing on the most recent crust around 40cm down. Small settlements with a compression test/ while pit digging but did not feel any instability while skiing or skinning. Snow height around 300cm on the south aspect. Great day! Felt like spring skiing.

When digging the pit, a shovel load on both the right and left side of the pit caused a sudden drop & small fracture line. The load of the displaced snow on top of the new snow caused the sudden collapse. This was localized. During the compression test, we had numerous sudden drops between 2 wrist taps and 10 elbow taps. This was all within the layers above the most recent crust, which was about 40cm down. A shovel shear test was easily able to pop the new storm snow off the crust layer with a relatively uniform bed surface. Skiing this slope, we did not feel any sudden whumps or drops. No shooting cracks either. There were no instabilities observed on the skin up either, except noticing how the new storm snow was starting to slab up and cracking next to the skin track. We were aware and managed sloughing of this new storm snow on the crust below. It was not quite bonded yet. Snow below the 40cm crust seemed well consolidated and pretty solid. Another obvious crust around 120cm below surface height. Probed 300cm HS. Snow was starting to feel heavy with the warm temps when we left.
