The snow pack cracked just under the rain crust from last Wednesday with a high hardness of hitting. On our extended column test the crack propagated across the full 90cm. It did not slide until it was pushed laterally. When skiing we broke through the thin upper crust but not the 8cm one that cracked in our test. We dug a pit the previous day on a flat and more protected area and saw similar weakness.
