A beautiful bluebird day. Temperatures were cold enough to keep snow surfaces dry except for straight southerlies.

Below treeline, exposed south-facing slopes were getting just enough sun to build a melt-freeze crust. Surfaces on all other aspects and elevations remained cold, dry and faceting. Near treeline, northerlies that held October snow continue to be the most worrisome for full depth avalanching, the depth hoar interface continues to produce moderate propagating results with extended column tests. The developing layer of surface facets will likely be the first to become reactive. with the incoming storm though.
