Blower powder at almost all elevation. You can still feel the crust BTL. HS from 50 near the highway to 170+cm in the alpine. No cracking observed on the uptrack BTL and at TL. In the ALP, wind affected snow turning into a stiff, hollow-sounding wind slab. No test done on the wind slab as we skied below the elevation band where it was present. Dug a partial profile to assess upper snowpack stability (just below rain crust). . Elevation: 2208m Winds: C, SW Aspect: W Slope Incline: 38° HS: 170cm Precip: Nil CTE6 RP, CTM11 SP down 30cm CTM11 SP, CTM13 SP down 35cm CTH23 SP, ECTN11 down 55cm on 1mm rounding facets (below the 10cm rain crust) . Summary: there's a weak interface between two storm layers @ 30cm and 35cm down. However, at our location, it was mostly unconsolidated snow. No slab properties, hence no crack propagation observed on the up. @45-55cm down, there's the ugly rain crust that's a mix bag of MF and facetted, another weak layer. We skied the slope, since the ECT confirmed crack propagation was unlikely in our specific terrain. Again, those results are local to the area we dug and not representative of other skiable terrain.
