Posting this as we encountered numerous backcountry faux-pas around the resort backcountry. The people doing these things probably won’t read these bulletins but for those actually practice proper backcountry travel techniques be aware of other groups around you. 1) A group was about to follow us into Canyon creek at top of stairway chair before we explained to them the only way out was directly back up. We had to tell them this as they had no touring gear or snowshoes with them. 2) After skiing Canyon creek, travelled to top of Ozone to ski Rudi’s north chutes. As the powerful sun beat on the massive cornice we told a group of 4 they should probably all step back from the edge of the cornice and pleaded with them to at least stay clear of it and not drop in on top of our group until we had cleared the chute. They were planning on skiing it with no beacons or rescue equipment. 3) As we skinned up Rudi’s south to ski molars north, a pair of skiers with no gear, not even packs boot packed up the skin track behind us. People do no understand the resort boundary lines or the danger of crossing them. Message to take home is to be very aware of the groups around you.
