stayed pretty cool but solar radiation affected the new snow. light to moderate wind SW with plumes up high but we got to 12400 feet with little snow transport on the day. clearing trend through the morning with strong solar by 1230
Snowpack
6 to 9 new with blown in sections and soft deeper wind slabs that were sensitive in steep terrain on a S aspect some corn where snow had been pulled out and dust on crust or soft wind slab on crust. S aspect at 11800 feet: dug 100 cm down. up to 200cm HS in the apron below the couloir feature. 7 inch new on top of strong melt freeze crust 5 cm thick. underneath mostly pencil dense slab. felt one mid pack weakness with probe and one near base. lots of dense snow. E aspect down into drainage bottom below montezuma road: supportable crust and wet clumpy surface snow. N aspects above tagert: 8 - 9 new snow; more blown in, with some wind texture. More faceted and weak snow pack in here with less stiffness and slab but still supportable skiing.
Avalanche
In steep terrain on S snow was moving with some D 1 sluffs triggered. moist surface snow. Older WL observed: occurred prior to new snow on S and SE aspects in alpine to D1 off of Doerr chutes and Malamute ridge, clumpy debris probably ran in last few days prior to refresh.
