Mostly cloudy to obscured skys on todays tour. Winds gusting in the 30's made the 18 degrees feel colder. Blowing snow.
Snowpack
Snowpack was very touchy today. Traveled on South and North facing slopes today up to 10,400 feet and 25 degrees in steepness. Snowpack had many rumbling and rolling collaspes today. Small test slopes cracked in most cases. Snowpack had many layers present. Breaking trail throughout the day uyou could feel several weak crust layers under the new snow.
Avalanche
Avalanche SS-R4-D1.5 As/I This slide was triggered to provide a safe decent from hwy 14. 75 feet wide, ran 50 vertical feet into trees. Some chunky debris, but mostly soft. Bed surface was stiff icy layer at the ground. This slope was around 30 degrees in steepness and East face with lots of windloading.
