A rude change from Tuesday’s bluebird weather. Cloud cover kept skies grey most of the day with only brief periods in the afternoon when there was enough sun poking through to greenhouse and warm slopes. Moderate to strong SW winds all day.
Snowpack
Warm temperatures and strong sun Tuesday afternoon created surface crusts on W, E, S slopes up to 11,300’ and some lower elevation N slopes. The wind was the story Wednesday, with constant, driving SW winds stripping ridges and stuffing gullies. Limited snow available for transport meant this mostly formed more isolated lenses of windslab than widespread, large, connected windslabs. The bandwidth for quality skiing has narrowed, but soft snow can still be found on protected Northerlies.
