Current mountain condition and trail photos from Banff and Kootenay on June 9, 2024

Attached are some photos of the Mt Stanley, the Rockwall Trail and the SE side of the Ten Peaks from a flight on June 9th through Kootenay National Park. Snowline is at approximately 2000 m in most places with lots of snow remaining up high.

Proper gear for snow travel and dealing with avalanche hazard is recommended for any travel at higher elevations.

Yesterday we observed several loose wet and cornice triggered avalanches up to size 2. These occurred later in the day as alpine temperatures rose to their highest level in the past week, following a somewhat weak overnight freeze. Several relatively recent slab avalanches up to size 2+ were also observed but it was hard to determine how old they were.
