Avalanche

Weather

Sunny, in the 50s and 60s all day on a southeast/east facing aspect near Hoosier Pass. Elevation was most likely around 10k+ feet but not 11k. Unloaded gear from the car around 2:45pm, dug pit around 3:15-3:30

Snowpack

Weak with several ice crusts over the snow around 6-10inches down from the top, melted surface hoar from the night before on top, snow was hard to shovel and 3 finger hardness, snow was about 3 feet deep in total. Did 2 ECTs, both tests no propagation. Did observe "rattlesnake whumps" where the snow hisses slightly as it settles, and areas of wetness. Felt like skiing through glass. Slope skied was estimated between 22°-26°.

Avalanche

Did not see avalanches. Warm sunny riding with great turns on spring snow for a lazy Thursday afternoon. Avalanche danger was considerable.
