Great snow for sledding, Deep and fluffy. Didn't seem to get the same extreme warming that (I assume) the Southern ranges did. There wasn't a melt freeze crust even on the road at lower elevations. Observed multiple size 1 avalanches where the recently formed wind slab had released off the 45+ degree NE facing slopes overhead, indicative of a likely exposure to watch out for that wind slab on.

It was calm where we were at 1500m but on the ridge top 1800m there was moderate blowing snow from the SW.

A quick observation with our probe told us there was a slight interface down 30 cm beneath the 30cm of new snow. A more substantial interface down 65cm (perhaps wind slab) and a substantial melt freeze crust down 105cm (likely the Dec 8 interface). Observation taken in a flat opening near a creek at 1500m below a N/NE facing rock face.

These extremely steep start zones frequently shed so the bed surface was rock. There was a slight crust 30cm down at 1500m. Unsure if the rock would have had a crust (ice) layer on it at 1800m.
