Crazy Kiwis

We rode sweet 16 this morning at 9am. Snow conditions were variable with powder pockets, crust and hardened wet avalanche debris. After we dug a put with the snow pack failing at 75cm~ and CTH1 we decided to continue on with our descent cautiously. We witnessed a small avalanche from skiers left of the slope up in the cliffs overhead, naturally triggered. Minimal debris came down into the valley.

Super clear and warm morning, not a cloud in the sky nor any wind. Temps seemed around 2-5 degrees, defiantly getting warmer too.

Compression test done at the top of north facing slope(top of sweet 16). Found multiple crusts throughout the pit, could be sun crusts or rain. Compression test result was CTH1, at a depth of 75cm~. Isothermal conditions have made the lowest 30cm~ very weak, as seen with our compression test results. If the lower layers give way it could trigger a size 3 avalanche funnelling into the valley.

A small avalanche witnessed as we were descending the slope. We saw minimal debris come down but there may have been more caught up in the steep chute/cliff. It seemed to be triggered by the intensity of the sun. There were also many sluffs seen throughout the morning, due to the sun beaming down for the past couple of days.
