Group ride to Proserpine, connecting over to Groundhog lake. Stuck to mostly open meadows and trail while brushing up on our avy skills. No observed natural or human triggered avalanches, no woomphs or cracks. Pit in an open meadow, a few meters from trees had HS 230 cm, windslab in top ~10 cm, HST ~40 cm, Boxing Day surface hoar was buried down 80 cm. Tests gave CTM13 SC down 80 cm on SH ECT P with some harder hits, propagating on the same SH layer. A great day out with a surprising lack of instability. But that SH is still out there, and could cause consequential avalanches.
