-7C to -3C. Calm, clear, sunny. S-aspect from river-level to 900m ice flows, crampons necessary. At 1000m on SE-aspect ridge a sandwich of layers: 2cm pencil wind/sun crust, 10cm fist facets, 1cm knife ice rain crust, 2mm 1F large grain facets, 1mm knife ice rain crust, 4mm 1F large facets, on an ice crust that was very difficult to probe beneath. Punchy surface slab on N-aspect rollovers. Soft facets at treeline and below. Several pockets of natural D1-D2 size windslab avalanches were observed on N-E aspects above 900m.
