Sunny, warm, and moderate northwest wind. Temperatures climbed above freezing by 9:00am this morning on the top of Red Mountain Pass.
Snowpack
The snow surface was slow to soften after Thursday nights freeze, but by 3:00pm the top 20-30cms of snow was wet and rollerballs and a few small point releases on southerly slopes were observed. A hasty pit on an east aspect, West Lime, showed dry snow below the surface and HS of 100cms. While a hasty pit on a west aspect, Brooklyns, showed rounding moist snow below the surface and multiple crusts in 110cms. Boot pen on the west aspect was to the ground. With the warmest weekend on tap and the unpredictable nature of wet avalanche activity both east and west aspects are suspect for slab avalanches after we see a night or nights above freezing.
