Weather

Sunny and cold in the alpine. 10-20mph west/southwest wind kept things really cold above 12k in the am. Fingers we’re chilly at the 10am drop in. Temps climbed to low 40’s at 8600’ by midday.

Snowpack

The remaining snow from the previous day was being efficiently transported in the alpine. Cold pow down to 10k on north facing. Most north facing aspects below that had a sweet sun crust likely from yesterday afternoon.

Avalanche

Multiple wind slabs on N and NE aspects at 13,300’ just below ridgeline underneath large cornices. A few stepped down to the March 18th layer and likely combined to run long distances. Perhaps stepped down again? (Avy path out of sight) Picture below shows large debris fan roughly 2k below crown. Likely cornice fall trigger as visible chunks of cornice (car size?) could be seen in the basin flats.
