Weather
Calm, clear and cold start to the morning. Some high cirrus moving into the area from the south and warming temperatures from the mid teens to mid twenties by late morning.
Snowpack
Low snow on Grand Mesa with less than three feet observed at the roadside weather plot and at the profile location. Two inches of new snow was somewhat effected by the previous northerly winds from yesterday as it fell. Storm snow from the end of December was consolidated to about 10cms and resting on top of the 12/28 persistent weak layer which consists of near-surface facets and surface hoar. The mid pack now consists of faceted grains. Long column tests produced non-propagating results on the 12/28 near surface facets and surface hoar (ECTN down 15cm on FCsf and SH). The only results on the 12/10 depth hoar from late November and early December was a small column test that produced hard, sudden failure (CTH21 SC down 45 cm on 4-6mm DH).
