Snowpack
145cm snow column in wind loaded, east facing slope at about 11700' just west of Hassell Lake. Dug a pit to preform ECT. Noticed multiple layers of mostly fist and 4-figer layers, and a 1-finger wind slab about 30 cm below the surface, but column was mostly consolidated with no precipitous changes until the bottom 35 cm, which was a completely faceted fist layer to the ground. We then set up the ECT, and starting cutting with a chord around 2 probes. as soon as we cut through the last 4 finger layer to the faceted bottom of the snowpack, the whole column collapsed on said layer for a result of ECT-0-SC. While buried deep in the snowpack, and most likely hard to effect, this layer could produce large avalanches. I was hesitant to post such a dramatic result, without more corroborating info, but I figured this would be an interesting note regardless.
